We are activel planning a Training Course for New Curmudgeonss. Start date will be be soon. Location is to be the Interstellar Cadet Academy in the Epsilon Centauri System. Payment in advance. That way, when you find you have been ripped off, you will have at least one good reason to be curmudgeonly. |

Dear scot47,
This flies in the face of all the latest research, which definitely proves that curmudgeons are born, not made (and it also flies in the face of Scottish predestination and Arab inshallah.)
Moreover, when did any self-respecting curmudgeon ever need a REASON to be curmudgeony?
Regards,
John |

Sorry to hear that. Get well soon, I'm sure you will.
PS. Apologies for the jokes I make about Scotland, wherever that is, although my Mum does remind me every now and then that I'm half Jock, too |

I've been underwater with work, all-too-busily manufacturing a potential heart attack of my own, and am late here.
But no less sincere.
Recover - you're needed, and appreciated. |

Nothing else for it then, Scot, but to declare a Scottish Soviet on behalf of the Scottish People, and just secede from the imperialist union.
History is on your side! |

Ah scotty, it seems the modern "King of Scots" (Mr Alex Slamond) has chosen 18 September 2014 for the date of referendum to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn ion 1314, which saw the English army defeated by the forces of "King of Scots" Robert the Bruce, during the wars of independence!

"We are bought and sold for English gold. Such a parcel of rogues in a nation." - Robert Burns.
I hope this time there will be no bribe from Cameron to buy the vote of scotty!
Good luck for the independence, and hope you will witness the day of ‘resurrection’ of the Scottish Kingdom! |

See what you mean. Was naively thinking it depended on the desires of the Scottish. Just been doing some research.
Campaign 'Better Together' (with undertones of 'Divided We Fall') has that nice Labour MP for Edinburgh (read - one of us) Alistair Darling giving positive soundbites...
Daily Mail 'feckless Scots' approach is a bit scary. You will never managed on your own "given the heavily subsidised style to which they are accustomed"
Scottish Secretary in Parliament presents a choice "to remain an integral part of the most successful partnership of nations the world has ever seen" or to "go it alone".
Telegraph poll says only 25% want separation and Times youGov poll says 59% against.
Separation will also cause: breakdown of Universities (due to shortfall in pension funds); breakup of EU (Catalonia, etc., following suit); mass rape of women during war (wombat Haig says joint prevention programme will end - always bring out the dying babies and the raped women for a virtuous stand); unemployment (CBI - and also don't need your free universities because most good jobs don't need a degree); Shetland Isle will join Norway, etc., etc.
Finally, it is Alex Salmond's 'Independence', i.e. a one man ego trip.
The English (don't believe rubbish about 'we are all British'; we call ourselves English) are not nice in a fight. We need somewhere to put our grubby toys and we need your oil, not to mention the nuclear traffic across the Atlantic.
From all the normal and decent people in England, sorry. |

I begin to understand how it must have felt to be an American colonist in the 1770s. |
