Pumpy,

I don't know if it's because your Canadian as im British but I'm having the same trouble with a different contracting company.

I don't have a degree in an English related field, however I received an offer and subsequently signed it. This was 6 weeks ago.

Everytime I ask about the status of the visa application they say we should have it shortly or in he next few days. I'm beginning to think it's just a tactic because they don't actually need me or they're waiting for more suitable candidates to apply.

Contact your recruiter and ask them what's going on.

Oh I have. They offer the same lame excuses but I'm pretty sure they're stalling, I just don't know why.

I've just been offered a job with QEHC, I have signed the contract. Although I had to chase them up to give me an interview. I was given an interview date with Asma Khan, and she didn't turn up, then given another date, and again she didn't turn up, then I though final try. Got another date, and guess what? 'well this time she turned up, but 45 mins later'.

So done the interview and got the job. Signed the contract, then sent her email asking questions.. 'no replies', then I called her and said 'oh didn't you get my email'. .... NOPE!!!

She told me I would be in a apartment in PNU which has a gym and I can call my family over after I get my iqama, but will have to move out of their accommodation. I'm just hoping she hasn't lied about bring my family over, because I have a 2 yrs old girl, a 4yr old and a 8yr old who would think I have abandoned them.

Has any females had problems bringing family over? I know in Saudi they do not allow females to sponsor family, but their family can come on visit. Oh the drama....

As far as I know, QEHC employees aren't housed on PNU campus, only direct hires live here. In fact, last I heard they were still living in hotel rooms awaiting a compound residence. I'm gonna ask around and see if I can dig up some information, but I think you are being lied to.

There are no apartments on campus, and never was. There is no gym, at least in the foreseeable future. Do not expect anything on even a cheap compound, they are just a block of apartments out in the middle of nowhere. The company brings more and more girls out here but for days did not provide any extra transport. The orientation lasted two days and then the Uni expected you to know your job - the set up at PNU is a different set of problems but they are in the process of becoming "paperless" whilst at the same time trying to raise the level of writing skills? I don't see how if everyone is going to be working on an ipad (eventually), but in the meantime, don't expect to get any photocopies and cross your fingers you at least have a whiteboard in the class as nothing else works.

Thank you so much for the info shine28. I've really been put off by this QEHC. I've already signed the contract and am told the visa agency will contact me sometime this week. Its okay for me to say i'm not interested anymore right? PNU is such a huge university, you would think they take care of their staff and that their equipment would be working. I mean its not a normal university, its the Princesses' uni. Anyonle else currently working there with positive views that can change my mind? If yes, i'd probably try working for PNU through another agency. I have contacted PNU direct but no response Sad

Better to withdraw your acceptance now as you continue your job search.

It's normal by Saudi standards. As for the name, you'll see that quite a few other unis in KSA are named "King..." or "Prince...," each after a member of the royal family. Having the name Princess Noura U is no different. In other words, don't be fooled by the name.

You won't get a response because PNU doesn't do its own recruiting for direct-hire opportunities. If you're still intent on working there, you'll need to continue to check job ads for the uni, and those are likely to be via contracting companies.

It's not a normal country, and that explains all the lying and nonsense.

Of course you can opt out now even if you've signed the contract.

You should definitely pursue getting reimbursed for your visa even if they are shouting you down.

Persistence always pays off but remember to keep it polite

There are apartments on PNU campus. Very nice ones, actually. And the gym is fabulous.

Haha... oh dear. I was replying to a post about QEHC staff being told we'd be housed on campus. I should have been more clear - there are no PNU apartments for QEHC staff... and there never was Smile

Plus, since this thread is about QEHC.... there is no gym! Direct hires get to use the uni gym but for us... nada.
