Hi !
I'm new here... and this is my first post.
Up until a year ago I did some teaching in a Turkish schoo, and I've got a lot to share with you about that,
but before that, I'd like to ask you a question.. and this is why I'm posting this message.. so if anyone had experienced this ... I would like to hear.

At the time I was working in Turkey, altough a working visa was promised to me, I was working illigaly (Meaning, altough the visa was promised, it was always in a "process"... and since I overstayed.. due to this reason and other reasons, when I came out of Turkey, the police was.. mad.
They were obviously telling that I overstayed and need to pay a great pendalty. However I did not have enough to pay it ($300-$400) So they let me go.
Now, I am planning to reenter, and I don't know what to expect.

Anyone knows?

Thanks Smile

I'm surprised you weren't banned--- one friend ust overstayed for a week and was banned for 18 months, and another worked without extending his permit and is banned 5 years. How did you get away without paying the fine or being banned? Am curious!

I just went out, and the police officer in the booth asked me when did I enter. I didn't remember.. and she was very nice. It seemed like if I told her she would just let me go, but then we realized they can't find the entry date on the passport (it was blur).. so they looked me up in the computer... and then told me to wait, and took me to the police office...
the police officer was "mad".... asking me why did I stay and what was I doing ... ? I actually had a good reason to stay, I didn't just come to teach..
and he said that I should pay $300 or $400.. I really didn't have this on me.. and I told him that... so he told me something in Turkish... which I didn't understand... and then asked me to check how much I have.. I didn't have much... then he said.. "could you pay $40" ?
I paid the $40... then he was still mad told again something in turkish.. and let me go.. I mean, they couldn't hold me, couldn't they.

When they ban you, do they put something in your passport ?
How does it go ? how do they know if I can enter when I come back.. and since it's Turkey, for the bad and for the good... my question is.. if they are strict with the ban, or do they let me in (maybe after paying them the pendalty or something, or after being outside most of the time (if I am banned at all)... ?

I thinkyou'd know if you were banned. My friends did. Not sure what form it took but I assume there was at least a stamp in the passport and a note in the computer system. Neither have come back yet (still banned) so I dont know what will happen if and when they return. Hey, it's Turkey-- you may just be welcomed back with a Hos Geldiniz and cup of tea...

That's why I posted it here Smile
I wanna be more secure and get as many opinios as possible Smile

I have nothing on my passport, and they didn't give me any note.
They were mad, but I don't know if they put anything to the computer... altough obviouly he could see me on his computer ...
So, I'd like to get more information about atleast what to expect... I'm flying from the US... I don't want to be scared for the whole flight Smile

Hi

Like Yaramaz I doubt if you were banned ,you would know they would have at least got an intreperter and the whole thing would have being explained to you on the spot .
Sounds like someone messed up big time in the customs control and you slipped through the net ,hence your overstay and fine .
If you contact your embassey they will confirm your status in Turkey .

I'm kinda afraid from that. I was even thinking to call the police there directly but I am afraid that then they will notice that something was wrong or ask me "why are you asking something like that, did you do anything wrong"... and then fix it.... Smile
