Unfortunately, this is Indonesia and it can take as long as it takes. What's more, since september 7th pilgrims have begun doing the Haj. So if a key link in the chain is out of office, that could account for some added slowness. Also, imigrasi isn't the only government office that must review the application. Before them DIKNAS and Manpower must review alll your docs and submit letters of approval.

My advice, be patient. Consider this a training exercise to deal with the next year or so of Indonesian bureaucracy.

5 weeks is not too long. I have seen the process take up to the 3 months even when the teacher had all the right docs.

Yeah visa's take as long as they take here. I've known teachers work on tourist visa's for 6 months before they finally went to Singapore and got their visa.

It can then be another two or three weeks before you actually get your card. At which point your passport will have been hammered because immigration like to stamp the hell out of them.

A bit of advice for anyone when it comes to passports. If you are thinking of staying in Indonesia long term, make sure you bring a 48 page passport otherwise a 10 year passport will be lucky to last you 5 years, sad but true.

Traditionally, a lot of schools have asked you to work on a tourist visa while you wait for the KITAS. What have they asked you to do it this case?
