Hi Everyone

Potentially coming to teach in Vietnam in the next month or so and had one major deal breaker of a question.

I have a few bills still to pay in the UK every month, nothing major but enough that I would rather not burden a friend or relative with the cost, is it possible to send £200-£300 every few months back to the UK from Vietnam as all I can see online seems to say it is very difficult. Although I have seen ANZ have something called Pay Plus, is this easy to use/ reliable if anyone has used it.

Many Thanks

Simon

I have an account with HSBC in Vietnam and my pay goes into that. It is two accounts; one in VND, a savings account, and one in USD, my current account. My pay goes directly into the USD account (I am paid in USD). I can easily go online and transfer money abroad. I think last time I transferred about 1000 GBP and the cost was about 10GBP. The transfer took place the same day.

It might depend on who you work for but my employer helped me set up this account as they are aware that we often need to send money home. HSBC are quite helpful on the phone and speak good English but their ATMs are hard to find so you might encounter additional fees.

FYI: Techcombank charges about 800,000+VND (flat rate) for international wire transfers, and they required a copy of my work permit. Tourists can't transfer money internationally with them.

Does anyone know what vietcom bank charges by chance? I'll be sending to Wells Fargo in the US, if that makes any difference.

Let me know of you do find out what Vietcombank charges, guess I'll have to swing by there later, I never have any problem's when I go to the bank, they always speak Engish well enough and they are very friendly and polite. Also the VC Bank staff wear lovely "ao dai" dresses, always a delight to see Wink

When I was overseas, I had a trusted party at home. I used to send international money orders through the mail/ups tracked labeled documents. I then switched to traveler's cheques because they were cheap or free, as opposed to the $20 imo. It sure beat the electronic balance transfer fees.

You can open an ANZ account with a copy of your work contract and pay slips. Then you can use the online service to transfer money online.

My techcom bank cards works abroad also.
