For anyone considering Happy Marian simply google yanpu and bean. This actually happened. This teacher is still employed at Happy Marian. Managment only pretend this never happened. And yet this is not the worst thing about the school. The only way Happy Marian can keep a teacher is by blackmail. If you finish your contract and want to work elsewhere in China they will simply refuse. In China your last employer needs to send a recomendation letter to the government. No matter what Happy Marian will refuse to sign this letter unless you stay with them for TWO MORE YEARS. Yes, even if you finish your contract and are on good terms with them. Don't believe anything Arthur tells you. He lies through his teeth. Unless it is in his best interest he will go out of his way to destroy your life. Just because Happy Marian is such an aweful school and the only way he knows how to retain teachers is via blackmail.

Wish I could pretend your block of text never happened.

I googled yanpu and bean out of a combination of curiosity and boredom. I now know...exactly nothing. Maybe my Googlefu is lacking but I got diddly related to anything mentioned by the OP. Mr. OP...please cough up a link or details or at least something better than the barely comprehensible jibberish above.

There are ways to pressure a school into providing a release letter.
Nobody needs a recommendation letter. Different animal.
There are also ways around the release letter requirement entirely.
The only thing I know from this thread is that the OP can't spell awful, recommendation, and management.

Edit: Difficult to believe this is the same Ki from '04 - '09

my google fu is mostly awesome, MT. i get this following instructions to
search on "yanpu and bean:"

"May 23, 2012 - Gelin Shuangyang Kindergarten in Yangpu District,Shanghai.
... "Miss Lin put the bean into my body," the three-year-old girl nicknamed Niu
Niu ..."

so, um, that's NOT the worst thing that happened?

Im probably on par with Cho and I could find both the school and Happy Marian but there arnt any links tying the two together. There is no mention of the school where the offence happened in the campus list on the HM website.

Though there does seem to be a lot of dissatisfaction by both parents and teachers over the school.

The school acts under several different names including Happy Marian, Green school, Round Table, and Gelin Shuangyang.

The first link shows the Happy Marian logo on banners at the front entrance of the school albeit not very clear.
It is just a horrible place to work for. Chinese teachers get out after a few months. Foreign teachers are blackmailed into staying. Yes there are ways around things but you should not have to be forced to take them. Right now the only English teachers they can obtain are Russian.
