Has anybody had any success (not hearsay) in obtaining a new Z-visa from a third country since the new entry/exit regulations went into effect September 1st? If so, where? Everything I have read from a direct source has been negative so far, including Hong Kong. Thank you |

But just in case theres some good news (really dont want to have to mail it back to the uk)... |

BTW, here is what a pretty with it immigration lawyer on China says about it, "Right now, there’s some upheaval in China visa law and policy, given the new statute and regulations. Some PRC embassies and consulates are less willing then in the past to issue Z visas to third country nationals. This includes the Hong Kong Office of the Commissioner of the PRC Ministry of Foreign Affairs. |

I got my Z visa in the first week of September in HK.
I thought the new visa regulations came in back in July, not in September.(?) |

Ok, I was in Shanghai on an L visa in the summer, found a job in Jiangsu Province, and did the health check in Shanghai in August.
I collected the 'work permit' and invitation letter from my employer first week in September, headed to HK , handed in the passport and docs on Thursday and got the visa back on Friday , and then crossed back into mainland China on Friday afternoon. |

This is the first major overhaul of Chinese visa/immigration since 1986, which was based on the Soviet model. It was first passed last year with July 1st and September 1st being the implementation dates. September 1st was for entry/exit requirements.
There is nothing in the WRITTEN law that states a third country consulate cannot grant any kind of visa. But from what I have read, how the new regulations are interpreted in the consulates abroad comes into play. Also, Chinese law has regulations not disclosed which now may be imposing stricter restrictions. The public never sees these, which a non democracy has every right to do.
These unwritten rules may also be where all these new demands for the z-visa are stemming from, which right now are being enforced selectively and differently at a provincial level.
Good to see some people have pulled it off. Disconcerting in that I have read of others who have not. |

HK does seem to be 'province-specific'. Another poster mentioned that Zs won't be issued in HK for jobs in Guangdong.
Why there is a split is beyond me |

No personal experience, but I think your chances are slim to none these days. Beijing now seems to insist that it is done from your home country. And Hong Kong seems to be issuing less and less Z visas overall.
Have you done the criminal background yet for Beijing? Seems very strict and quite a lot of requirements that would probably necessitate that you need to return your home country. |

Phnom Penh *used to be* easy. No proof of Cambodian residency visa required. Not sure about these days though. Would also depend what province you're headed to in China. |
