Oh, you've got to be kidding me; another website!

Do you have a different website for each of your alter egos?

I dare say all of the things in that article are ploys that recruiters may use, so it's a pity that you undermine yourself with the hyperbole and over the top statements.

Something that a lot of people don't realize is that when they believe that they're dealing directly with the school, there's a good chance that they're actually dealing with a recruiter who has been given a school email address. One indication that your contact is actually a recruiter is when you are suddenly dealing with a different person whose language ability is markedly different from your initial contact.

To prove this suspicion, compare the ip addresss in the headers of the emails of the different people you deal with at one school. Check their locations through whois or another service. If your prospective school is in Shenzhen, but the ip address of your contact is Beijing there's a good chance that you're being handled by a recruiter (unless, of course, it's a chain and the headquarters is in Beijing).

The final test is to go looking for your supposed school contact after you're hired. If that person can't be found or no one in the FAO immediately recognizes the name, you've been taken.

Just a little food for thought.

You raise a good point Bud. Too many self-appointed "recruiters" pretend to be HR directors of schools and unis. That is why it is a great idea to use this form letter with every teaching job you apply for when you are not 110% sure who are dealing with...

Keep in mind that many of these yahoos are nothing more than guys with mobile phones and free email accounts hustling for a few quick bucks

My point is that if using an agent is as good as you purport it to be, then why would an agent be deceptive about being an agent?

The biggest argument against using an agent is that most have never even seen the school. They may have spoken to the FAO on occasion, but I have spoken to only one agent who had actually visited the school.

Nah. They only pretend to have cellphones just like they pretend to have contacts at SAFEA and the Ministry of Education.

You raise a good point Bud. I think most agents realize that one day their clients will realize how much the agent really raped them for and they may face some angry foreigners who may get violent. This is why most of them only use their made-up Engish names and never ever give you an office address or a name card with their real Chinese name on it.

Just read the story about "David Wu" at the CFTU website. That guy used 5 different names and used to pass out name cards caliming he was a "senior recruiter" for New Oriental. I think this is the rule and not the exception concerning China "agents" and "recruiters"

http://www.chinaforeignteachersunion.org/2012/12/new-oriental-agent-scam-uncovered-in.html

There simply is no accountability for these thieves with smiles. And if you think about, they never have to worry about repeat business or referrals because of the high volume of resumes they suck of those internet ads that pop up like weeds every day on the internet. In fact, I'll bet they sell jobs that don't even exist!

Should we be impressed with 18,000 RMB per month? I

Sounds like you are a common LBH, that enjoys looking down on newbies.

It was earlier in this thread...weird first post for someone who's been registered for 3 months already. Did the spammer just nose-dive an alt before takeoff?
