|
|
Is Thailand a good spot for first timers? I'm looking at moving to Chiang Mai or Phuket in February to take the CELTA course and I'd like to stay in country to teach. I spent a month backpacking in Thailand and absolutely loved it.
How stringent are background checks? I have a DUI on my record from 3 years ago. Will this prohibit me from working in Thailand?
I'm a bit worried about moving there regardless of how much I enjoyed visiting, all the bad stories I here are pretty discouraging. |

Just come to Thailand.....but remember money should not be your primary motivation in teaching EFL here.. This is a great place to start a teaching career,,,,,you will earn valuable experience. Don't worry about your DUI conviction.....just get a local police background check and you'll be fine. Good luck! |

Yeah money is no big deal at all. Just want to live comfortably/not be stressed about it ever.
By local background check what do you mean? I sent off for an FBI check recently that I haven't gotten back. I've never applied for a local cbc, but my DUI was in the state I currently live in so I assume it would show up.
Also does anyone have tips on the CELTA course in Chiang Mai, Phuket, and BKK? I am leaning toward CM, but the beach sounds nice and spending time in BKK would be cool though it definitely isn't a place I could stay for an extended amount of time. |
