Hello all,
I have five years of ESL experience and have just got my state teaching license. I am ready to make the transition to better things.

I will make a grand stab at getting into a good international school, however the competition will be keen.
Therefore, my backup plan is to get into a public elementary school.

My question is for those who know, those who are there and who have knowledge of the way things go.

Do public schools there hire full-time foreign teachers and if so, are they paid more or the same as local school teachers?

I ask this question because it seems some countries do, some don't, and some have a system where foreigners just show up to teach a class or two. Also, it is hard to find the information quickly...

I appreciate any information you may have.. Thanks!

Keep in mind that there are two kinds of international schools in Asia:

real accredited ones and "international" schools (not accredited, but use an English language curriculum).

As far as I know, there are only two accredited international schools (International Baccalaureate) in Cambodia:

If you are unable to get hired at either of these, then your fallback should be with one of the "international" schools. As far as I know, public schools in Cambodia do not hire foreign teachers.

You should also be aware that there is a bit of an ongoing political crisis there:

Cambodia’s opposition party will hold a mass demonstration next month to call for international intervention in the country’s political crisis following disputed elections, according to party leaders.

Successful candidates without teaching qualifications will be appointed into the Singapore Education Service as trainee teachers on the General Education Officer 1 (GEO 1) or General Education Officer 2 (GEO 2) salary scales. You will receive a full monthly salary while teaching in schools or undergoing NIE training. Additional salary increments may be granted for relevant working experience.
