Moot question. Your choice it is not. All now/soon to be Arab management. All bad.

Basically, you don't get to choose your branch... the branch chooses you assuming that they need someone with your background or skills (or just a teacher NOW). Some are better and some are worse. In spite of DLI's blanket comment, there are good Arab managers (and extremely bad Western ones...). Right now, the management structure is in a major changeover, so it is even a bigger crapshoot than an application has always been.

You're right. There are varying degrees of Arab management...time will tell with the latest manuevers.

I'm surprised that anybody even vaguely normal would be considering joining the dishevelled and demotivated ranks of HCT. In fact, I believe that the newish director of ADWC was recently sent packing at 24 hours' notice after a major academic scam had been uncovered. Or was that at ADMC?

The whole HCT empire is corrupt and despicable. Avoid at all costs!

Speaking for non-Arab management or supervisors, it seems that historically that the British have really taken over the UAE in terms of TEFL teaching. Kind of how the Canadians have taken over the EFL scene in Korea.

Is there still an over representation of British head teachers or supervisors at universities in the UAE?

It has been like this since I was there in '92. HCT always leaned British. Then ZU was started up under a mostly American management. There tended to be a variation depending on the nationality of top management. Hiring an Aussie or 'merican or Brit or Canadian in top management tends to bring in a bunch of teachers/managers of that nationality. But, it was always a mix of nationalities. There was a bit of 'competition' but it was as often fun and interesting as competitive.

In fact, the Gulf has always been rather a mix of systems/management. Oman mainly leaned British... Kuwait/Saudi mainly American. The UAE is about half and half... (looking at various university management).
