Todays Zaman published an excellent article today about life in Turkey for new international university students. I would like to point out that these obstacles are not only limited to Istanbul, but are prevalent throughout most of Turkey. I would also like to point out that these same issues equally apply to new native English speaking teachers when they arrive. To survive the first 6 months here be sure to bring you sense of humor and a suitcase full of patience.

Yep doesn't just apply to Istanbul,in fact most English departments have no idea what they are doing even to help their own foreign staff with legal paperwork, pretty damn useless to put it mildly! |

This reminds me of when I was waiting to get my residence permit and in the office there was a man representing a group of Chinese men. The officer asked him how he was able to tell any of them apart. |
