Hi people,
Just a quick heads-up about this place which I enquired into two years ago.I just got a REALLY abusive email from some dude who claimed to be a foreign teacher working for them and whose email had been supplied to me on request. He suddenly sends me this disgusting mail insulting me and claiming that I am not a real Native Speaker (the exact same thing that I said about him) and berating me generally.I don't know what this is all about but I am just warning people that the place seems a little weird if this is the kind of person they employ to encourage would-be teachers.I am very grateful to be nowhere near him.

A warning about a school should be about the school and how it treats it's employees. I doubt CiSISU had any idea the guy they recommended was going to write to you in an abusive way, and since FT staff change all the time it's possible this guy doesn't even work there any longer. A better title for your thread would be "Warning - Some FTs are AZ$ h0les", lots of these people around, and then give us some interesting reading by way of what they said and did.

Ok Javelin fair enough and point taken regarding title of thread.I wrote the school asking them to supply names and emails of current/past teachers and I got 3 non existent emails. Finally they gave me this dude who purported to be a Native SPeaker but wrote funny English and declined to tell me where he was from. After I got suspicious being new to the CHina game I got a nasty email from him which I ignored and went elsewhere.Today, out of the blue I get the following:
"as I browse through my mailbox, I saw an undeleted mail. I remember you... the one with a master degree who can't get her writing right.
just to let you know that I refuse to dignify your shit because you lacked politeness, which I think did not reflect your level of education,
and years of experience. lol second of all, I was asked in behalf of that school to represent them in talking to a shit like you, and I was holding
myself and just passed it off to a friend of mine who laugh up at your writing considering that you claim to be a Brit.
You shouldn't be teaching with a terrible writing, and with a terrible attitude. anyhow, I am free to rain shit on you which I failed to do so at that
time because of being courteous to the school."
Cute,right?

I'm sorry that you've had this unpleasant experience.

There does seem to be a tendency among people to accuse people of not being native speakers. Once somebody applied to my Uni, and from their overly idiomatic English and various other things, it was really obvious that they weren't a native speaker. I was a bit annoyed because they were lying to me and wasting my time.

I very nearly sent them a nasty email telling them where to stick their imaginary native speaker nationality, but instead replied and asked them a few questions, and it turned out that they were a highly educated US born and bred citizen.

The reality is that sometimes people speak unusually. Every now and then I hear idiomatic phrases from Americans mostly that sound strange, and vice versa.

On this board people often accuse each other of not being native speakers, and really, what's the point? Does it make us superior?

I can't imagine why anyone would think that you weren't a native speaker. I think you're dual nationality, so maybe he had a problem with the nominally non-native speaker one, or is just a nut job, not that the two things are mutually exclusive.

Anyway, it's entirely possible for non native speakers to be considerable better (certainly at speaking) than a lot of native speakers. I've had a couple of discussions with people about how many native speakers would get a 9 (the top mark) in the IELTS speaking exam.

Sorry if I've taken this off-topic.

Sorry Vikologist it wasn't him being a NS or not that bothered me but the lack of transparency and the feeling of being lied to that put me off the place, and frankly when I received this letter I breathed a sigh of relief that I had not gone there. I don't enjoy this kind of abuse.

He is just insecure and was paranoid about his own job!

Many non-natives are like that from what I have experienced here.

I agree you can't blame the school for an idiot teacher.

This is, to me, the writing of a Chinese person who has learned English, but doesn't know the basics of proper insulting. (Okay, doesn't have to be Chinese, but certainly not native speaker!) Using "shit" the way he does, is very telling and I've heard Chinese friends use the term in very similar ways. They know the curse words, but kind of have a hard time using them in the "proper" way.

My guess is that the school tried to lie to the OP and claim that one of the Chinese faculty is in fact an FT.
The OP failed to fall for the lie, and caused the impersonator to lose face, so the impersonator felt compelled to write the OP the insulting letter.

If that is true, then it is probably best that the OP did not accept a job there.

Email the school admin, stating your reasons for declining the job, and include the abusive email you received. BTW your habit of not spacing after a full-stop is probably one reason why he decided your writing style was non-native, it is a rampant trait among Chinese English writers. Also, spacing after commas.
