What then is the Saudi government's visa requirements? They seem uncertain at best, with little or no uniformity from one embassy to another.
As I recall many writers here were talking about how horrible recruiters were for bringing in people on these unorthodox visas (imagine in the kingdom!), and how stupid people were for taking their bait. But this was sure to come to an immediate halt, what with the forthcoming enforcement of more stringent immigration policies. These imminent stringent immigration policies, by the way, had nothing to do with qualifications, as it were, but with types of visas, period. Unsurprisingly, nothing has happened with this: business visas are still being issued wholesale. And does anyone really believe this is occurring without the go-ahead of the muddle that is KSA immigration.
So now the story has morphed into these unorthodox visas being given to teachers who are, .. . sadly . .. under qualified for the discriminating Saudi government's visa requirements. This reckoning is about as substantial as the earlier one.

Dear rollingk,
"But this was sure to come to an immediate halt, . . . "
Hmm, probably just a memory lapse on my part, but I don't remember anyone writing that.
Does anyone recall that?

John there is no doubt that a few posters here too readily criticize those who don't go down the proper road, as they imagine themselves to have.
Things are always changing here. Interpreting every one of these changes through a lens of self validation is tiresome. |

I suspect the obvious, such as a degree unrelated to teaching. Also, the age of the applicant---being either too young or too old per the Saudi labor law. The biz visit visa seems to circumvent these issues due to its less stringent requirements. |

Dear rollingk,
"Interpreting every one of these changes through a lens of self validation is tiresome."
I agree - as long as it holds for all sides of an issue .

Here's what's going on so far this year.
After nearly 4 weeks . . .
Scantron machine is again broken thanks to "all-thumbs" admin - we must hand grade the tests.
Moodle is not working YET - we must post grades by hand thanks to our "IT genius."
Classes average 33 students each - management sees fit again to have fewer teachers for the weakest students.
Still waiting for new women teachers - admin's major qualification request is that they are over 40 years old. |

Do you mean that the admin prefers women teachers over 40 years old?
Why, what's wrong with women teachers under 40 years old? |

The ones under 40 you can't hear sneaking up behind you... |

Basically, if they are over 40 and breathing, Shabaka doesn't care what qualifications they have or don't have. It's about warm bodies so the two new "coordinators" can sit around doing nothing.
As someone (Hocus Pocus?) said, Shabaka will bring in anyone they can and they don't care about the teaching. However, pretty girls are preferred. The hockey boys like to pass the pictures around and comment on them. And that, my dears, shows you the extent of their respect for women. Consequently, the women's program is an afterthought in all they do.

Finally got them! After nearly 6 weeks Shabaka finally delivered. Not seeing a whole lot of "wasta."
Still lacking several female teachers. |
