Komar University of Science and Technology in Kurdistan, Iraq, is advertising.
Suppose you are desperate enough to apply and are interviewed. You may want to bring up the intriguing case of the vanishing teachers. As stated in the recruiter’s LinkedIn webpage, in December 2012 "the initial team of ten faculty, including a Director" was hired. However, the university staff directory shows only two teachers in the English Learning Center. What fate may have befallen those eight missing brave souls?
Suppose you are unlucky enough to be made an offer. You may want to ask for clarification regarding the clause that states "the at-will status of this agreement," just in case it has the obvious meaning that "the contract may be honored at will."
From the wording of the ad it appears that Komar University of Science and Technology in Kurdistan, Iraq, is approaching interns, volunteers, and people otherwise unemployable elsewhere. Expect to be treated as such. |

Has anyone heard anything more about KUST? I interviewed with them recently. The offer is decent, though certainly not a spectacular salary for the region by any means, and the people there seem quite friendly. I don't have unrealistic expectations -- I am sure it's possible the contract could be terminated quickly, and that some aspects could be ignored/changed midway through. Such is ESL the world over. However, it does seem a good opportunity to work for a new university in a rapidly growing region. I'm curious to see what others' thoughts are. |
