I've been to Harbin 5-6 times and do not feel that the air quality is that much worse than other big cities. In the winter it can get bad, but most of the year, I think Harbin probably has better air than Shenyang or Changchun. And I definitely think the air is better than Beijing.

Maybe that was just a bad day.

Also, Harbin doesn't have 11 million people. Whoever wrote that article needs to get their facts straight. Maybe the prefecture has 11 million, but the city itself is not nearly so large. The reporter didn't do their research.

Is that what they're paying or what they advertise? Language mills will pay full timers (30-35 hours, depending on the school) 10-13k per month if they have a degree + cert + experience. One of my "part time" co-workers took home almost 30k in August by doing classes by the hour, but this was under the table work. Yep, the school still made a hefty profit off him.

To be fair, the air pollution was only that bad for 3 days. Air quality that bad isn't an everyday occurrence in Harbin.
