Yesterday my boss sent me to interview for a beginner and an intermediate corporate class. I got the job, but they're too cheap to buy text books. They expect me to find one online, and email them a pdf so they can photocopy it.

I've spend an hour and a half searching online for a decent textbook available by pdf. All I can find are ads through file sharing sites, which want me to download their client, and from my experience usually put viruses and adware on my computer, and then don't deliver the file they advertised.

I'm supposed to start teaching tonight, and they want me to email them the pdf this morning. Any ideas as to where I might find textbooks in pdf format?

You are not going to find legal PDF copies of good textbooks online for you to distribute freely.

What does your boss/school suggest?

OK, then you need to buy yourself sometime. Have the students already done a placement test? Have you already done your needs analysis? If not, can you fill your first lesson with placement tests/needs analysis, some ice breakers, intro games/tasks, etc. Tell the client and the school that you will recommend a book next week when you've met your students and know what they need.

Then post on your country forum and ask for recommendations for a book store, or find the local office of a major supplier (Cambridge, Pearson, etc) and see what they have in stock.

This really shouldn't be a teacher concern. The school should be telling the clients that they need to pay for course books. And if that still didn't work out, then the school, not the teacher, should be trying to find an alternative.

Sounds like a lot of messing around, and not likely to be worth the effort.
