Can anyone tell me whether a person age 40 to 50 stands a chance of being hired in Korea. One agency specified under 40, another under 30.
Are there any schools and/or recruiters, willing to hire age 50.
Thanks |

well your best bet would be to search the Korean forum. There must be a thread there about this in the bajillions that there are there.
Though I'm in Korea, I really don't know the answer to your question.
Sorry I can't be more help |

i think you'd definitely have a good chance of being hired. it's true that some places might exclude you from the process, but there are a number of people working here that are in that age range. |

I have two friends over 60 and teaching in Korea.
Try the KOREAN board. |

I landed a good job at age 51 last year. A friend also got a job at 38, many others in their 40's and 50's. Not really a problem. Some age discrimination - others will value your patience and accumulated wisdom. |

You've gotten some good advice and encouragement. It's true that there is some ageism in Korea. It's an interesting paradox in a country that claims to respect age.
Part of the reason is that many of the private English schools are for children and a number of Koreans have a misconception that older people lack the energy needed to chase after kids.
Part of the reason is that some of the employers prefer cheap, inexperienced employees. Such employers care little about their students and care a lot about profit. You wouldn't want to work for them.
Part of the reason is that some of the employers look for young people specifically because they believe young people are more naive and more easily taken advantage of. Again, you wouldn't want to work for them.
Just be patient and persistent. You'll find an employer. When you do, it will probably be a good situation. |
