I can't imagine what would happen if I was actually...you know...good looking.

Rarity enhances.
I recall at my first job back in the day, I worked at a vocational tertiary near Dalian. Roll very skewed towards females.
One student who I got to know quite well was a very presentable young lady.
Sporty, outgoing etc.
I asked her one day 'Why no BF?"
She said 'No not enough boys at this school. Here even ugly boys get girlfriends'.
Could apply to teachers, so take heart.

That's true of most English classes. Out of a class of 30 students I had, on average, 2 males. I always said if I was a Chinese boy I'd chose English as my major... The ratio is also as skewed in the engineering/science side. My friend was the only girl on a engineering course (out of 75 students).

One of my students/friends once told me something along the lines of 'even a pig's ear can get a boyfriend if they're an engineering student'.
