This is what I heard from a recruiter. It seems that China is changing! Maybe because there is a heavy influx of foreigners coming here to China these days?

Here is another question: They all say TEFOL/TESOL, but none say CELTA. Will they understand what a CELTA is if you submit this as your credential?

you posted beforewise that you were interested in getting a tefl
certificate in zhuhai. could this recruiter be pushing you to apply for
a tefl/job placement program? otherwise, don't know why he's
telling you that b.s.

It's been required on many locations for more than 3 years, including most of Shandong. There is no surprise here. Jinan even goes as far as not accepting any certificate program conducted/obtained in China.

It's a joke. People could just print off a 'TEFL Certificate' from their computer and it will be accepted in 99.9% of China.

But apparently not in Qingdao.
When I taught there in 2010 I was the only FT out of 8 with an ESL qualification.

I believe this new "rule" is really enforced when, well, it' actually enforced.

And if it is, they're available online for $149. In fact, there's one on offer not six inches from where I am typing this very minute.

Very sad, but also, very true...

I know a lot of "teachers" with dubious online TEFL "certs" happily teaching away in lingo schools teaching lil kiddies all weekend long...
