Radiology is a medical specialty in its own right in my country.
There wouldn't be enough work for a radiographer (takes the pics), let alone for a radiologist (interprets the pics) in my local 4-doctor practice.
If you aren't asked to send your films to China, do take them with you as it is then likely they will not expect you to undergo a further nuking.

When I had a medical done in UK before coming to China, the doctor just wrote "not carried out" in all the boxes requiring any equipment such as x rays, e.c.g. etc. This was accepted by the school. I've since found out that so long as you put something in the box, it is often sufficient

Or as Sgt Schultz would say 'I know nothing'.
Joking aside if the Dr was doing his/her job should they be sending you overseas for a a year without checking some health baselines?

Slight update:

Well, the doc here won't send me for a chest x-ray, as I have no indication for one. Here's hoping they accept my form without one!

Maybe the 'not carried out' route is the way to go.
My question is what would he/she do if it was a local employment situation?
For example a mining company having been stung by claims for lung problems might expect to establish a baseline via a chest x-ray before taking on staff.

i would assume the mining company would want a copy of the full report
with x-rays and doctors notes for the files in case of black lung.

the folks at the embassy don't care if you have a terminal case of
white lung or not. they just want the form filled out. unless you've
got an advanced case of hiv/aids/std, you'll probably be approved.

instead of "not carried out," have the doctor write "normal" or "not
indicated." in rare cases embassy form-checkers can read, in which case
the first response might be questioned.

Mmmm..
As presenting there would be no indications calling for an x-ray, so the Dr would be correct in refusing to do one.
Such health baseline checks are usually included in the job description in the West.
I'm surprised the x-ray isn't a condition of employment in China, rather than just for the visa process, where anything written or stamped is accepted.
However when you do your in-China check you might not escape so lightly.
Worst case is having to do two x-rays.

Is it normal for a non-working spouse to also be required to have a medical check for the visa process, yet the kiddos aren't? Any idea why? (Never mind. "Why" is a silly question, isn't it!)
