Has any body worked here/heard about it? Having a hard time finding info about it, its a weekend job which is eh but I'm not very into drinking/partying and I feel like there would always be stuff going on in SH during the week anyway right? Here's the posting:
Shanghai Weekend Teaching Positions (up to 14000/month/after tax) (Full and part time weekend teachers urgently needed) (If you apply for the part time weekend job, the pay is 200 after tax for one hour, You should already have a work or business visa for the part time weekend job, and please ignore the rest of the details here as they are for the full time weekend job applicants.) (This school, the second biggest Chinese school with a good reputation in Shanghai, recruits two or three teachers every month due to its rapid growth. It is a very formal, professional Chinese school with a good reputation as they get a foreign expert certificate and work visa for every teacher.)
l Teaching general oral English to kids aged 3-16.
l Starting Date: immediately and other time
l Bonus: 10,000 (This will be paid if the teacher renews his/her one-year contract.)
l Annual insurance will be purchased for you.
l Paid leave: about 2-3 weeks (during the spring festival period)
l Teaching hours and pay: RMB9200 after tax is guaranteed for 40 or less than 40 teaching hours a month. RMB180-120/hour for the hours outsider the minimum workload of 40 hours. If you teach 70 hours a month, you could easily make about 14000, but 14000 is not guaranteed as you may not teach 70 hours a month esp. in the first few months. Teaching hours are increased gradually, but 9200 after tax for 40 hours or less than 40 hours a month is guaranteed. In other weekday job schools, you need to teach 100 hours a month to get this amount of money. You still have plenty of time for part time jobs which exist everywhere in Shanghai and plenty of time to make holiday trips around China.
l Office hours: You will attend a meeting every Thursday afternoon for about 2 hours. You will exchange teaching experience with other teachers and enjoy free Chinese lessons.)
l The location of the teaching: Zhongshan Park, Jing’an Temple, Babaiban and other 20 plus branches in all over Shanghai, most of them are close to subway stations.
l The number of students in a class: usually no more than 15.
l The age of students: 3-16 on average
l Providing apartment or not: no.
l Offering free Chinese lessons to teachers.
l A work visa (Z-visa) and a foreign expert certificate must be provided for you it is a formal training organization which is attached to a famous University.
l It is a full time job but the working hours fall on weekend and Friday evening (the earliest class time could be 3:30pm on Friday). The earliest start time on Weekend could be 8:30 and the latest time could be 8:30pm, but you will never teach more than 8 hours a day. You must make sure you are ready to work on weekend and Friday. You can have most weekdays (except Thursday afternoons and Friday afternoons) for yourself except for summers and winters when you may have a few weeks’ lesson on weekdays and you get extra pay for that.) You may also teach on one weekday, but you will get extra money for the job.
l About Housing: There is no housing as this is a great weekend job with good pay. In Shanghai, it will cost about 2000-3000 to find a studio apartment with private bathroom and kitchen. As most of young people can speak English, it is not a problem to find an apartment. |

This is an odd and contradictory ad.
The first part states that "You should already have a work or business visa for the part time weekend job...'
Translation: We want you to work illegally.
Near the end of the ad it is stated:
"A work visa (Z-visa) and a foreign expert certificate must be provided for you it is a formal training organization which is attached to a famous University."
If you really want to work illegally, then be sponsored for a Z visa by a school in Shanghai that offers no housing allowance and requires work both on the weekend and during the week, go for it!

I worked for Only English a few years ago and it is a legitimate training center. They changed their name to "New Dynamic Institute" or something like that and opened branches in other cities back then 2007/2008.
It was a typical training center jobs. I particularly like the "You Will" portion of the ad!!
I didn't and did not renew my contract. It took awhile for them to do whatever needed to be done for me to change my visa to my then new school.
Looking back, the best job I had in China was at SISU, which is where I went after Only. So, my suggestion to anyone who cares - look into SISU.
Good Luck. |

Thanks for the replies guys. Figured it had to be legit if Jiaotong lended it's name. Thanks for the recommendation Salvatore, I checked out SISU - seems they only want phds for the most part. Must have been quite a jump going from a training center to that job. |

Also Beyond1984 - the ad was for both part time positions for people already there with visas and full time positions, hence the contradiction. I might have cut off something in the beginning. |

Hi,
I got offered a position from them, I am supposed to live in less than a month. It seems legit and all, but kinda slow paced when getting the visa. Think that's just China though... |

At first glance I thought the thread topic was for "Oily Education".
Might be appropriate . . |
