So if I am in China on the 'marriage' 1 year visa - and I want to work - do I need to leave China and apply for a work visa in my home country? Or can I for apply for that work visa in China?
thanks in advance |

Wow! China is effed up. You can't work by being married to a local? In SK, once you're married, you have the ability to work wher ever you want. I would have just assumed it to be the same in China. Sounds like a complete lack of common sense. |

My wife is married to me, doubt she could work in my home country. It is a pain just to get her a visa to visit |

I think it is common in most countries that newly arrived spouses cannot work legally....I was told after 5 years of a continues stay....you can legally work .. not sure of it though |

I think spouses on settlement visas can work in all EU countries. I can't imagine any of them wouldn't be able to, as it would be against EU laws to take such a discriminatory approach.
I think it is quite rare for a country to reach China's level of development and still have such a primitive approach to foreign spouses. But it's not the only area where China chooses to take the f*** you approach, so I wouldn't expect a change anytime soon.

Actually, spouses of EU nationals have the automatic right to work only in the spouse's home country; not necessarily in other member countries of the EU. It's a country-by-country issue.
In fact, not sure if every EU member country even allows spouses to work if it is the home country of their partner. I believe there is a residence/time requirement in some. |

The benefit of permanent residency in the US
no restrictions on working. USCIS will grant conditional permanent residency for 2 years, after which you'll need to file another form to get an unconditional green card. |

This is completely incorrect, at least as far as accompanying spouses are concerned.
http://europa.eu/legislation_summaries/internal_market/living_and_working_in_the_internal_market/l33152_en.htm
Many countries impose restrictions on the ability of spouses to get passports or citizenship, for example by making them wait x number of years and insisting they pass certain tests, but that's not the same as not allowing them to work. EU countries can decide on a country by country basis on how they allocate their passports etc. |

Well, of course once they have citizenship and a passport they can work, because they are citizens. Not because they are spouses. |
