Re: Intensive practice week. I have no #!!*%$# idea what it's about. The last two schools I taught for (2 year vo-techs) required them. It requires a lot of paperwork and preparation at the last minute. It is to be avoided.

If the OP really likes the gig and has no issues, then I say to go with the flow, especially if he/she (bella?) intends to stay several years. My recommendation is to find out if the school is remitting the taxes or just isn't paying her the standard minimum of 5,000 rmb in order to avoid taxes. There's a downside to the school not filing her taxes: she may not be able to convert rmb to her home currency without the help of her employer (i.e., paying taxes).

I am the only one who thinks this offer is terrible? the OP is working around 100 hours a month for 4800.

Find another job that doesn't require a ridiculous amount of office hours.

I get the missing 200/month in the form of a travel allowance in January.

I hate to tell you this, but that travel allowance is standard SAFEA for public institutions.

If your school isn't deducting and paying taxes, you will probably have tremendous difficulty converting RMB and sending it home. Find out what they're doing with that 200 rmb. It shouldn't go into somebody's pocket.

At 10 hours, it's not too bad. At 25 hours, it's unthinkable.
