I've been sending out a letter I found on a China anti scam site(kinda unpopular on these boards) and it makes recruiters pretty uneasy. Has anyone seen or used this letter that is floating around on the internet? And what are your thoughts on the letter, and whether you think it is a good way to root out predatory recruiters?

I've done a similar thing with girlfriends. here's the letter I send any girl who is interested in me.

Quote:
Dear potential girlfriend

Thanks for your interest, but as I'm sure you're aware, some women in this world are evil, heart-breaking prostitutes who will suck you in with their feminine wiles only to betray you after sucking you financially dry.

In order to avoid this situation, I would like you to give me the following information.

Your full name, date of birth and full postal address, along with a web link to every blog, Facebook or social media page that you have ever had a profile on.

How many men have you slept with?

Exactly how much money will you expect me to spend on you in a typical calendar year?

Be warned that any romantic relationship would not constitute permission to post images of me on the internet, or comment on my performance, sexual or otherwise, either in writing or verbally to your friends.

if you are agreeable with all of the above, I will be happy to consider you as my girlfriend.

Please be advised that if you subsequently break my heart, I will post full details of your betrayal on weibo, qzone, facebook etc along with any sexual images of you I have managed to obtain during the course of our relationship.

Yours faithfully (because unlike my ex-girlfriend I have never been unfaithful)

Vikeologist

You'll be pleased to know that this letter has successfully scared off a lot of predatory girlfriends and saved me a lot of time and heartache.

Pick your battles Mate.
Crusading against predatory behaviour towards Westerners by Chinese ain't a fight you're gonna win.
Look after yourself, warn others, move on.

Fair play everyone.
Vikologist- funny!

Any advice on dealing with the recruiters? I see a lot of negativity in the board about recruiters , has anyone had any good experiences?

I've gotten two positions through recruiters, they were both above board and honest. I've encountered some bad recruiters, but it's pretty easy to spot them before you do any actual dealing with them.

NB: An honest recruiter does not guarantee that the position is a good one. Once you're employed, the recruiter is out of the loop and everything is between you and the school.

Thank you all for your information.

Well, I sent the letter twice and have had a poor response. I sent the letter to one recruiter and I got a message citing privacy for the reason why I couldn't have their email address or phone number, or even an office address. The second recruiter actually sent me a phone number in the email, but has yet to respond. So, I think that the letter is off putting; as it was predicted.

I probably need to reconsider my strategy.

To the recruiters or to teachers to warn them?

But if you don't trust a recruiter, why take a job offer from them? Surely, this list can't have every recruiter. Some are good.

They also act nicer when you inform them you already found a school. They try to convince you to leave and butter up a previous offer.

This is the message I tell them:

"Well, sorry, too late. If you were willing to give me more money or provide better housing a week ago, I would have taken your offer. You refused, so I looked elsewhere. I doubt this is a China culture issue recruiter, as you are claiming. It is not my misunderstanding of how you do things in China. It is a clear understanding that you were trying to offer a job with less pay and benefits and when I found another school you decided to do some belated blackmail trick. It didn't work with me. Give this new offer to another teacher from the start and you won't have these problems."

Let's get this out in the open: What are the qualities of an honest recruiter? At what point does one know when he is dealing with a dishonest one, when everything falls apart and the prospective FT realizes that he didn't do his homework?

Too many people blame the recruiter when they find themselves in a terrible school being paid too little and that the contract conditions to which they agreed are not to their liking.

I wonder just how many people who swear that they've never used a recruiter have ever actually met the person with whom they dealt before they arrived in China. Probably very few.

Folks who say how easy it is to get a job without one are mostly those who work for mills and language schools in cities in where there may be dozens of them. It's a simple matter of walking across the street and applying. It is completely different game when one works for a university.

People who have not used the services of a recruiter shouldn't even discuss them.

This whole thread stinks of a new group of spammers trying a different tactic to legitimize the China scam and teachers union site. There are always new people on the boards so they lay low for awhile and inject their scam into the thread again. Low posting numbers, putting in links.....all tell tale signs they are back. Nice try.
