So, I got a job offer in Japan. However, they're asking me a few things that seem different from the last time I was in Japan.
#1 - They are asking me to mail me the original copy of my diploma to apply for the visa. Is this necessary nowadays to apply for a visa?
#2 - They are telling me to go to Japan first on a tourist visa and then apply for the work visa within Japan. Previously, you were required to leave Japan in order to switch to a work visa. Has this changed?
Other things aside, they offer seems good - 250,000 yen/month, housing minus utilities, one-way airfare - is this a good deal? |

In many cases, yes, although I think an apostilled copy might also be acceptable.

Yes, it has. There's no problem with changing your visa after you arrive.

Sounds good, from those scant details.
Be careful about your plane ticket. If you buy a one way ticket, your airline may not allow you to board, so triple check this. If it's a problem, one solution I've heard of is to buy a Hakata (in Japan) -> Busan (in Korea) ferry ticket, and cancel it once you've landed. |

1. I didn't provide my original and there wasn't any problem.
2. Isn't it sketchy you don't have the visa beforehand? What if you get denied while there? |

If you have a nationality that allows you to obtain a "Working Holiday" visa, then you have much less to be skeptical about in regards to your second point. |

I know someone who came on a working holiday VISA nudge, nudge.
He registered everything properly with the local city hall, paid all the correct taxes and medical and didn't have to hide the fact he was on such a VISA. When it came to the end of the year, he had no problem getting it changed for a one year instructor VISA. |

While you can change your visa status from within Japan, it is illegal to come on a tourist visa to work. Ask them why you can't get your visa before you leave, as it sounds very sketchy.
The last thing you want to happen is to go to Japan and then the company decides they won't hire you afterall, so you don't get a visa. |

Sorry, I misred this. Yes that is a bit strange. You should just apply for a one year working holiday VISA and come over with enough money to survive a few months incase it goes sour.
When does the position start? Isn't there enough time for them to get you a proper VISA? |

You probably know this, but just don't work without the proper visa. |
