It's easy enough to get. Go to a Triple A office. They'll take your photo there, and issue you your international license. It's good for one year from whatever starting date you tell them you want. The last time I got one, I think the photo and license together cost me about 20 dollars. Keep in mind that it's only good in combination with your regular drivers license. In other words, it doesn't work on its own. Also, valid drivers licenses from the USA are recognized in Mexico, so if you have your own car here, you can use your USA license instead of having to get a Mexican one, although some Mexican auto insurance companies insist that you have a Mexican drivers license. |

I think that I may initially get an international license and use it in conjunction with my U.S. license when I want to rent a car in Mexico. If I ever make enough money to buy a car there, it sounds like that is the time to obtain a Mexican license.
