Do language schools in Russia usually obtain a background check from the FBI for U.S. citizens? Specifically, does anyone know what BKC International House requires? Thanks.

Not to my knowledge. None of my American colleagues have ever mentioned such a thing.

I think BKC does require a background check. But it is only with the Russian police, AFAIK. Therefore you can be a mass-murdering nuclear terrorist elsewhere, but if you have no record in Russia, you'll be OK : )

Background checks are not required by the government unless and until you apply for the temporary residency permit (i.e. you have worked in Russia for a few years, you are married to a Russian etc). This applies to any foreigners, US or otherwise. (For those thinking of applying from Britain, I believe the sources of 'Disclosures' are either local police forces or an organisation called Disclosure Scotland. I am less certain about people from Northern Ireland, hence my not referring to the UK.)
