Hello. I am wondering if anyone has insight on this school, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST) in Pukou, Nanjing. It used to be the Nanjing University of Meteorology. It seems like the student population is quite an intellectual base, but I haven't been able to find any comments from individuals who have taught there or reviews in general about the place. If anyone has any insight, I would be glad to hear it. Thanks.

I interviewed for a job there last year. The people I met were really pleasant and seemed on the level.
But, the campus is an extremely long way from anything, I mean even a supermarket with basic items. By distance, I'm talking in the range of an hour and a half to 2 hours on the bus, or around 80rmb by cab, to get into the city of Nanjing proper.
The teacher housing is 'motel style', having lived like that previously I believe it's tolerable, except that at that particular uni the doors are locked at 10.00pm. So even if you simply go out for local street food and a beer with mates you may well be sleeping on the doorstep. A night out in the city would mean staying in a motel in town and going home the next day.
Although it appeared to quite possibly be a reasonable place to work, I felt it would be nigh on impossible to actually live there. I took a job elsewhere.

Thanks rattie, I am really grateful for the information. Ugh, it looks smoggy in pictures there too.

For those in Nanjing, any idea of how long it would take on the subway from the center to NUIST?

I haven't been the Nanjing before, so I'm very hazy on the layout. A friend of mine asked me to consider this Uni, but I don't want to be in the absolute 'sticks'... still, if there's a subway/metro then it might make it far better.

On a side note, any idea of the taxi charge for a trip from the center to the college? Rough estimates. Just trying to get a picture of whether it's worth doing. I tend to stay in the region of my uni most days, but I do like the occasional night out for drinks or nicer dining.
