Had enough of Oman and wonder where to go next.
What country would be the best move?
Yes, I know it depends on my qualifications, experience, personal circumstances and life style...but in an ideal world...where would you go? |

Thanks Chiselpoint for the suggestion - much appreciated!
For M'sia:
* Good salary if working on a MOE project
* Low cost of living
* Reasonable public transportation system in KL and across country
* Lots of public holidays
* Students are passive but not argumentative
Against M'sia:
* Dirty and smelly
* Very hot and humid all day, every day
* Too hot at night to sleep
* Too many floods during the monsoon season
* Air pollution (haze) drifting over from Indonesia during July/August
Any other ideas? |

Believe me, I know all about the haze. I was in the town where it hit the highest.
Regarding the other cons about Malaysia -- the heat, the grime -- I'd say it'd still be a step up from Oman in every category. Except for the floods, but those can be fun. Just try not to die. |

2013 Flood in M'sia worst in the region for 30 years:
3 people who got killed, another missing
18 roads impassable
20 000 people evacuated from their homes
50 000 people badly affected
Food shortages (i.e. vegetable, milk)
Where's the fun in that?
The 'haze' (which is really smoke from forest fires in Indonesia) blanketed all of M'sia, worst affected were the states of Melacca, Johor and Selangor.
Stores were running out of protective masks, air pollution was at hazardous levels for several days. A couple of people with asthma died.
Visibility was reduced, making travel by car and airplane difficult.
Any other suggestions apart from dirty, stinky, flooded, polluted M'sia? |

Why is this thread here? The topic has nothing to do with Oman.
If you want to ask a general question about where in the world to teach, I would think it would be more appropriate up in the General Discussion section of Dave's.
