Did they change the color? Mine have always been blue. I accidentally took my FEC with me to a bank to exchange currency in Mexico City; I mistook it for my US passport. |
okay, so i'm colour blind.....healthy cert is brown, fec is indigo.

Mine is definitely brown-ish. Though in certain light it appears almost purple.
Edit: I said that at night, under the light of a desk lamp. Now, in daylight, I say that it is more of a maroon.

Hey guys, I just wanted to share my experience. I'm going through something similar with my Resident Permit.
I recently finished a one year stint with a school. I am in a situation where my Resident Permit expires well beyond the last day of my contract. So I assumed that I could have a few months to take my time and find my next job.
On my last day of work, HR emails me saying how I need to hand over my passport so that they can cancel the visa and switch it to an exit visa. I knew that the employer would cancel my FEC pretty quickly but am hesitant to comply with this. I conveniently don't have it with me and head to the PSB the next day to speak with someone and hopefully get some favorable news.
The agent told me that they'll be notified when the FEC is canceled, and I have 10 days after to give them my passport and get a 30 day non-renewable exit visa. If I don't, this can cause some trouble/fines for former employer, future employer, and/or myself. I was also told that the exit visa begins when you submit the passport, not when the work relationship ended. She's claiming this is "per their regulations." I have no idea how adamant they are with enforcing this, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Don't shoot the messenger, just relaying what I was told.

| I'm impressed you almost made it 3 full years without posting here. Hope things work out, maybe the long-timers will have some helpful advice. |

| I'm a long-timer and I've never heard of an exit visa; DK says it's non-renewable, so it's probably not an L. |

I never heard of it either...but it seems it's real.
The below is one of the services from some random visa agency...
L1. You have China X or Z Visa now, stop working (or studying), Want to change it to 1 month with no entry nonrenewable Stay Permit (Humanity) |

| It's real. I got one last August. If you transfer the F.E.C. to another company, then you can have a Residence Permit after that. In theory, you can have a Residence Permit no matter what visa you hold as long as long as S.A.F.E.A. gives you an F.E.C. |
