Hi,
there are many comments claiming that Oman is a ' springboard' or entry position for better jobs as experience in the country would open up better opportunities.
However, no reference is made as to where these better jobs/ opportunities are. Could anybody enlighten me please?
Thanks!

Salaries in Oman are considered low for the gulf. It's not really considered a destination for those in pursuit of money.

I think Oman would act as a springboard in the way you'd acquire the necessary two-three years' experience with Arab students that's a requirement in countries with higher salaries and that demand higher credentials (UAE, Kuwait, Qatar).

Obviously for the better jobs in the Gulf. If you have your MA and get a few years experience in Oman with Arabic speakers, you can move up to the high pay jobs in the Emirates. (or Qatar)

So... you might start reading around on the other boards and checking out their jobs.

Depends really on what you mean by 'better.' If you're talking about salary then almost all of the Gulf is better than Oman but if you're talking about lifestyle then oman is ok.

Just wanted to comment further on madrilene's post about Oman not being a destination for those who come to the Gulf for a salary. While I agree with that, I have learned in my time here that Oman often DOES become a destination country for those who come with dollar signs in their eyes and then get sick of living in places like UAE or Qatar.

We have a good number of teachers here in Muscat who gave up much higher salaries in favor of a better quality of life. I think I've even heard people say that they spent time in the Emirates or other Gulf countries saving so that they could actually relocate to Oman and enjoy themselves.

Thus, that door seems to swing both ways.

As for me, I've never worked anywhere else in the Gulf but Muscat and I feel that my salary is more than adequate. I would not trade the chance to work in Oman for a salary double what I am making here. That said- I also am not supporting a family and therefore definitely can understand why others choose NOT to come to Oman.

Just my two-cents… the long winded version of it…!
