| Since I came to Oman in February 3 years ago SEVENTY teachers have left the College up to the start of the academic year September, 2013. That's 70 out of the 109 who were either here when I arrived or were recruited since then to replace the departures. How many of this years 18 new recruits will stay another year? There are no exit interviews and nobody seems to care about the attrition rate and it's effect on quality. At the moment this year one has left and one appears to be missing in action, what's more, virtually all of the ex-pat teachers are going to the TESOL Arabia conference this weekend mainly to attend the jobs fair! |

Wow, that's pretty bad. This field can be pretty awful, so if that many leave, I'm certain they had very good reasons. Have you talked to any of them to ask them exactly why they left? |

With that many going, it's likely to be very obvious what's wrong - probably there aren't 70 different reasons  |

| I've been corresponding with a member who was asking me about positions in China. She went to Oman instead. She sent me a message and told me how much she makes and her housing situation. Don't know if it's indicative of what's going on at your workplace, but from what she told me, YUK! |

Some of the agency teachers here with minimal qualifications (BA + CELTA) only make 1000 OMR pcm and live in the back of beyond in fairly basic accommodation, water doesn't always work etc..They teach maybe 18 hours a week and classes can be over 30. |

| Wow. Not good. Hows the management? Exit interviews sound like a fantastic idea thoigh. Sadly no.place I have ever worked required them. Pity. They could learn a lot from teachers. Though some.places dont care much about teaching or teachers. It comes down to ehat looks good and money. |

Senior management (Omani) invisible. Middle management (Indian) autocratic and inconsistent, mainly concerned with sucking up to the Omanis. |
