Considering the company wide email you wrote, I'm surprised they'd ever entertain the notion of inviting you back.
Is this old colleague with a Franchise or Corporate? I personally won't work for a corporate school, the Dalian Head Office has has not impressed me with their supreme levels of incompetence on an ongoing basis.
Franchise schools, maybe, depends...
The last one I was posted at in Shanxi province was nice enough. |
The 'old colleague' was another A.M. I did training with and attended an AGM with who, if I'm not mistaken, has always worked for a corporate-owned school. That's how we met--through training and an AGM. The last school I worked for was a corporate-owned school which is how and why in my time with Aston I got to attend one. With over 100 schools, most in tier 3 cities and pay well below the competition even after factoring in the free housing, the incessant turnover partly due to franchisee behaviour those of us on these forums are all too familiar with, I'm surprised you're surprised! Corporate won't hire me because I left my last 3 posts before contract completion although I gave adequate notice but that doesn't deter franchisees from offering me positions to this day. As with the vast majority of educational institutions, the problem with Aston is not incompetence as I argued in my email---the problem is a failure to align to the set of core principles they spelled out long before I joined them in 2004. |

| Franchise owners for Aston, any esl chain school in China really, can be a mixed bag. The last one I worked was quite pleasant. I'd recommend her school to any new aspiring teacher who is looking to get a start in China. |
