How do you feel about emailing copies of your passport to people you don't know? (Especially considering how popular identity theft has become.)

I edit my passport scan so that the numbers are covered. After an interview that goes well I will send a full copy.

Yes, I've done that too. In experience, I tend not to hear back from them even after mentioning security concerns in my email response and offering a fully disclosed copy once a formal agreement is arrived at.

Nomad,

Yeah, that's true about hotels. I don't mind copies of my passport. What I'm concerned about are the many, many scams in this industry (check out CFTU for more info), giving it to a nation full of recruiting companies that change their name every three months, and the 15 to 30 odd copies that are made in transit across a global network ["traceroute IP" will give you a hop count].

Also, InfoSec will give you the skinny on current global hacking activities.
