:p

Anywho, update came back: they said they do it their way so that people are less likely to back out of contracts. And they said they may let me do it my way, and I just gotta send original diploma (might ask if i can send notarized one), other paperwork and COPY of passport (whereas they wanted original passport if I was in the country). Now what are we thinking?

If they pay so much better, why do they have problems with people backing out of their contracts? Hmmm. Original degree/diploma? I'd be leery of sending it. Some teachers bring them into China to present if asked but original copies aren't always necessary.

The only time the sponsor of your visa needs your physical passport is to present it with your FEC to the PSB for the Residence Permit. It takes several weeks now, apparently but there are no other times that you should give up possession, other than briefly for copying.

So, got a job offer, money looks good. They explain that they can't let me get a Z visa from my home country... I have to go there first and use their special agency to get a z visa. They will send all my paperwork (including my original passport) and then get a letter for me? And then I have to take a train for an interview in Beijing? What the heck is that about? Should I just straight up e-mail and ask if that means their company doesn't get visas because they aren't authorized and if they are using an illegal visa source? After traveling to Beijing, I'm supposed to go back out of the country to Hong Kong to complete the temp Z process or something... it just seems much more complicated than it needs to be...

I guess it's just the only decent-money offer I've gotten (peeps only want to give out 8K salaries this year or something... meanwhile I'm aiming for 13K+) so I guess I just want it to be legit. arg!

There is no "issue" to debate. Just follow the law and if an employer is legitimate they also will follow the law. Stand your ground and demand a Z visa.
