Is it my imagination, or is that a lot of contact hours? I'm used to 20-25 contact hours plus about 10 office hours.
What do you think? Fast track to burn out? |

That's excessive. For example, I taught 15-18 hours/4 hours office time per week. |

That's what I thought. Thanks for validating. |

30+ hours...foolishness in relation to pedagogical quality. How are you supposed to teach lesson after lesson with no time to plan as well as no time to rest? A company who proposes such foolishness is a company I don't take very seriously. If it's a temporary measure I can understand, but a common one is pretty disgraceful.
I remember I was the only native teacher at a language centre, therefore I had 34 contact hours. It wasn't healthy at all and it was difficult to maintain enthusiasm. I doubt you would face this problem working at any of the universities. The language centres...avoid them like the plague! |

Yes, I agree with you. The pay was very attractive, but after consideration, I realized how boring the job can get at 20 hours a week. I'd like to keep some enthusiasm, as you said, since being isolated in a foreign country requires all the perks you can get. |

30+ hours is a lot. I guess they are planning on milking their teachers dry. |

yes. I received another offer for 9-12, and then 4:30 to 9pm. Skipping that one, otherwise it's a good financial package. |
