I suspect the terms and conditions regarding the employee's release from service subsequent to completion of the employment agreement are likely stipulated in the contract between Aramco and the contracting company. The company is not obligated to disclose such information to the employee because he isn't a party to that agreement; however, it's very likely already written into the employee's contract anyway.

not in my contract actually, and, interestingly, there are a few cases around the office where a teacher in this situation has left the contractor, returned to their home country and, within a year, been headhunted by Aramco with a direct hire offer.

The teachers did not do this as a calculated gamble: personal circumstances made their departure necessary despite the career prospects. Once things had sorted themselves out back home, they found emails waiting for them when they got home one day.

You are almost certainly right that there'll be contractural restrictions I'm not party to between Aramco and my contractor.

However, in that scenario, the contract with the initial employer was terminated, which differs from an intent to convert or transfer one's employment and sponsorship to another while still on contract with the initial employer.

Absolutely. These teachers had no choice and things happened to work out for them. I'm sure there are plenty more for whom things did not end up this way though.

I've talked with a few teachers who have considered actually leaving their contractor and repatriating in the hope that Aramco would contact them later. However, none of them have actually done this as it would mean burning a bridge that might never be rebuilt. It's a hell of chance to take with your future when you are already in one of the best jobs in the kingdom anyway, contracted or otherwise.
