I can move most of my stuff myself to my new apartment, but I am at a loss how to move a futon. My new apartment is 30 minutes away by train.

My first thought is to hire a moving truck, but I am wondering if a courier service can move it?

Anyone with a simliar experience?

I take it your futon isn't the kind you can just roll up?

How big of a futon is it? Single, double? Kuroneko might be able to send it if you can fold it into a big bag or box.

I have two futons. One is a single and the other is a double. I guess I need a mover.

You can rent a car if you have a Japanese driver`s license.

Maybe I'll just give away my two futons and fridge.

It seems like most things, including moving services, are discouragingly expensive in this crowded little country. In most other countries that I know, you can just hire the neighborhood handyman to move your stuff with his van or pick up truck. It won't cost you and arm and a leg.

Why not just hire a small van yourself? If you don't have a licence, do you have a friend who would you help you out?

That is what I did 10 years ago in Sagamihara. I rented a van for ichi man and asked a Japanese teacher to drive it.
Problem solved.
At that time I didn`t have a Japanese driver`s license.
Three teachers were happy to help out.

Thanks for the advice everybody.

I'll think it over.

I am just not sure if it is worth an hour's drive and a rent a car to transport 2 futons and a fridge.

Maybe it depends where you are, but the car rental places by us would rent for 4 hours at a time. We also used a car share service that let you rent in 15min blocks, but that had a subscription fee.
