Anyone heard of these schools or have an experience they'd like to share regarding them? Thanks a million!

I don't know anything about James English Schools.. I have not seen any comments on them at all in forums. I had a friend who worked at Kevin's English School in Odawara. He enjoyed it, but a room in his apt was also a school classroom. Well good luck, I am interested in that one too Laughing

There is a guy spamming the Kevins English school website on the forum at
http://www.eltnews.com/community/

Ask him as he would know- sounds like a teacher on the way out or one of the company lackeys.

Thank you for asking about us! I am always happy to hear us mentioned here and there.

My Japanese wife and I run the business, while bringing up three children.
I also teach and co-manage. By teaching I understand what our teachers are going through. As it is our family business, and we are small, teachers are a very important part of our team. You will not be a number.
That is how I felt while working for some of the big schools. At times I felt like a number, especially dealing with some head office hours away
from where I was working; and having to deal with someone who really didn`t know me.

We will get to know you well. You will become friends with your students too. It is a very friendly place to work and live. Sounds corny maybe,
but I think it is true.

We need to replace one of our female teachers who has taught for us for three years. Our teachers tend to stay longer than the average for teachers at other schools.

We view our job as that of keeping teachers and students happy. If teachers are not happy, they won`t do as good a job of teaching students, so it is a very important part or our job to provide you with a
good, clean place to live, and a good working environment. I really
feel we are one of the best schools to work for in Japan. I`m biased
of course, but that has been my goal all along--to create a school
that genuinely cares about the students and teachers.

If we are interested in hiring a teacher, we don`t mind that teacher contacting our teachers. In fact we want you to know the good and
bad about working for us, as we feel it is better if you know what kind
of situation you would be getting into. We want to have a good idea
that we will be able to work well together as a team and that requires
honesty.

That is what we look for when we interview teachers. Teachers
who are honest about their goals and who they really are--not some
facade they are presenting to get a job--any job.

Bushido

No problem with advertising your school once or twice but common etiquette dictates you dont spam every thread on a board (like ELT) or put a notice on unrelated threads. Some people get responses from there sent to their mailboxes and they end up getting 20 postings from Bushido pushing Kevin's school.

I simply replied to threads that were about working in Japan, or people dissatisfied with their jobs and mentioned us as an alternative. I don`t think that was spam.

You might want to contact the General Union as well to see if they have any information concerning those schools. They may not have but it never hurts to try.

Bearcat,

if you go to the http://www.teachinginjapan forum you will find at least two employees who are pushing the KES school with links to the school homepage and were seeking teachers to apply to the school. Their websites were on the same server as Kevins webpage, and there was an awful lot of ego-boosting "friendly caring Canadian teacher/owner, co-manager who knows what its like in the trenches"

Does this sound like Church of Scientology to you or Soka Gakkai to you?

You know, bushido, much as I respect the reputation of KES, you aren't doing yourself any favours with this style of posting. Considering that eslcafe makes its money from job adverts, posting what amounts to a full length advert in the discussion board is in poor taste. It is on a par with a rival English school actively soliciting your students - it is a direct attack on Dave's source of income.

Mentioning that you are looking and telling people about where to find the advert is one thing, but you really ought to think about the ethics involved in using a discussion board as advertising space.

The charitable part of me wants to believe that "bushido" is actually someone intent on soiling the reputation of KES.

Paul,

I wasn't refuting anything stated by you, the guy is obviously a spammer.

I was just trying to mention the GU seems to always have even more dirt on companies as I have become aware of in recent weeks. From posts on LJ. Razz
