Hi folks,
I'm curious about the typical evening schedule at a "factory" job like Wall Street English. About how late do you usually get off and then how early do you have to be back in the next day?

The reason why I'm asking is that I have a serious interest in daytrading. The US stock market opens up at 2130 or 2230 Beijing time depending on daylight savings. If I could be off generally by 2100 (and didn't have to be back in at 5am the next morning like Korea) it's doable.

On that note, how's the internet connectivity in China? Any traders out there?

Thank you kindly

Daytrading AND teaching English in China? I would go stark, raving bananas!

Anyway, OP, the schedule will depend on the individual school. Whatever they've been able to line up, i.e., corporate classes, children, etc.

Right, the U.S. markets currently open at 9:30 pm China time. My internet is fast enough to trade, but I primarily swing trade. I only get about 5mb download and 0.5 mb upload speed but that is good enough and I think these speeds are common in bigger cities. If you trade in minutes like a FOREX jockey you might - might - have trouble.

I don't know about WSE or others. I'm sure someone else knows.
Cool

it all depends on city and location and political situation. during party
congresses or when certain areas get 'hot,' the internet, especially
to foreign sites, can slow to a crawl.

it's a great idea though!

when you lose your shirt day-trading, you'll still have your job at EF
to keep you hosed and fed.

"... hosed and fed..."

That's the reality of it.

Thanks all.
I was tempted to say something like "Hi, I'm a trader who just happens to do a little teaching on the side..." ~anyone who has ever struggled with trading would appreciate the sarcasm.

Can anyone enlighten me about the evening work schedule at WSE and similar places? That's really my main point of concern...

I would suggest that you work at a public school. You will not work many hours. In many places 18 hours or less. You can do your other work in your ample free time.

WSE- 35 hours/ week. Schedule can be anywhere from 10am-9pm, inconsistent days off and inconsistent working hours. You might be in til 9pm one night, and back by 10am next morning. Might get your schedule 2 weeks prior. Daytrading MIGHT work, because there's not much of a life other than that!

Yep!

…in addition to all of my other helpful posts and threads started in addition to my numerous answers to the several pm's that I have received about life in China and gaining employment in the Middle Kingdom...

all serious posts and no play makes fat_chris a dull boy.

Cool

Warm regards,
fat_chris
