If you could take a year out (no matter what age you are) and sit on a beach or mountain, etc, for a year, where would you head? Let's say with $15-20,000 to burn. Idea

Istanbul or Berlin. Hearing nice things about New Zealand but never been. Not sure how far $15K would get you in year in those places though. Beaches don't do it for me, not for a full year at least. Id like to hear what others say.

Looks like I may do just this with several thousand to burn.

China it is then.

Sit on a mountain for a year and you'll probably end up with piles!

I soon got itchy feet if I stayed in one place for a while when I travelled. Once I'd photographed everything and read a few books I was ready for moving on.
I did think at the time this might be what being retired feels like, especially if you don't have any interesting hobbies to keep you busy.

Dear fat_chris,

Actually, since I came from the eastern US, I took a (non-political) right turn (off I-40 onto I-25) at Albuquerque.

Regards,
John

Indeed it does! Largest city in the great state of New Mexico. Metropolitan area has more than 900,000 people. Home to the University of New Mexico.

Dear jaffa,

Do you? Do I? These are deep metaphysical inquiries that need to be much pondered. Smile
