I thought I'd give everyone an update.
My employer was only able to get me a 6 month residence permit in another city. Basically all of the teachers at my school are going to have to leave at the end of this academic year, because they've all been in China for 5 years.
I'm looking for a new position now in a city that doesn't enforce this rule. I've also been told that Chengdu is now enforcing this rule as well. |

Have they been told how long they have to leave for before they can return? A month? Two years? Cheers. |

| A colleague of mine who has been here 5 years was recently told that he would have to leave for one month. That's in Hebei Province, fyi. |

| Agree. I am now in my fifth year in China. I was recently home, thinking I would never return, now I am back. It grows on you. Hard to explain. |

Just renewed for my sixth year. Woman the PSB said "I hope you stay here for the rest of your life."
Which, besides the creepiness, was very relieving to me.
[edit: I'm in a mid-sized city in Shandong Province, so obviously this 5 year rule isn't enforced everyone in Shandong] |
