What do people do with regards to health insurance whilst staying long-term in Thailand (a year or more)?
Obviously the 30,000 baht wage is fairly standard. Are there any tax (taxes?), or any other regional/government obligations to pay regularly.
Just trying to work out exactly how much to actually expect each month. |

At 30k thb you are unlikely to have a tax bill in your first (calendar) year.
The first 240k of your income (per calendar year) is tax free.
The next 150k is taxed at 5%.
The next 200k is taxed at 10%.
So... if you start in May and work till Dec (8 months) at 30k then your gross income will be about 240k (no tax due).
IF you work a full year (Jan - Dec) at 30k then your gross income will be about 360k.
Deduct 240 (personal deductions) and your TAXABLE income is 120k.
The tax bill on that would be 5%*120k = 6000 thb/yr (500 thb per month).
IF you are working directly for a government school (NOT through an agency) then you would be covered under social security for basic medical (not great coverage).
Private medical insurance will cost you about 12k thb per year (BUPA Sapphire plan) http://bupa.co.th/ . Coverage is adequate for the basics including outpatient and common surgical procedures.
Would not be adequate if you needed major heart surgery or an extended hospital stay. (other plans are available but costs rise to 3k+ baht per month).
