Hi,
Does anyone have any info on positions teaching at BAe in Riyadh?
Me: 37, UK citizen, MA (TESOL), Trinity DipTESOL, 10 years teaching exp.
What kind of salary would I be looking at (UK pounds)?
What other benefits do they offer?
I have a family. Would I be able to bring the family out immediately?
Are the compounds nice?
Do they provide decent schooling for children?
How many hours is one expected to teach?
Office hours?
Nice job?? |

| Family cannot usually join you immediately. BAe will put you in golden chains so that you can never leave. |

| Check the contract carefully if the job is offered. A friend of mine has a clause in his which stated that they could move you from your initial location to any of their other locations at any time and without notice. |

| I work with several ex-BAE instructors, and they all seem to agree that the job and work environment are terrible, but the pay is good and the compound they live on is nice (compared to the rest of Saudi). I visited, and it was the only place in KSA I've seen that wasn't gender segregated. |

| ARAMCO Main Camp is also non-segregated. Women drive there. |

BAe? Would that be British Aerospace by any chance? If it is then you are in for a delight. They have a massive Salwah compoud just south-east of the airport here in Riyadh. Population over 2000 residents. I was just there over the weekend. There is a public school and probably high school there too. Although I only saw the public school. There are about five bars with real alcohol (or at least real good on site alcohol) there. There were at least two swimming pools that I saw and another huge pool that was signposted as 'indoor swimming pool.' They have a huge football pitch with really soft grass that my feet were sinking into as I walked over it. Some really potent smelling Rosemary bushes. At least Two major restaurants that allow you to bring in your own alcohol. The whole complex is walled by a 20 foot wall. Security is tight to get in. I had to pass through about three security checks including photos before we were given a visitors pass in exchange for our iqamas. You can't just waltz into the place, you need to be put on a visitor list by a resident there. My car was also parked in a visitors parking lot that had its own 20 foot walls around it. I had to take a shuttle bus from the parking lot into the compound to where we were going to have dinner. As for segregation I didn't see any female or family sections for alcohol consumption. I thought that was a little strange. Oh and one more thing, women are not allowed to wear their abayas inside. But if you are naked underneath the abaya, I suppose they'll make exceptions. Or not.
