Hello,

My understanding is that dental care is not covered by most (possibly any) health coverage provided in teaching contracts.

I have some dental work that I need to get done, and I'm wondering if I should take care of it in the US, or after arrival in KSA. Does anyone know how cost/quality of dental care compares in Saudi vs US or UK?

Thank you!

Get it done before heading to the Kingdom.

I'm currently working in the KSA and my employer provides "B" class health insurance. I very recently had to have a tooth extracted, which was free, apart from a 3 Riyal admin. fee. I am now getting a bridge made, covering the missing tooth and the neighbouring 2 teeth, cost: 1200 Riyal.

disagree totally with that.

I've had extensive dental work done here in KSA and it has been fine at a very good cost.
Extraction at 150 a tooth. Root canal work done at 500. The guy who did it all was very good.
It can be a case of finding the right place though.

Several of my American and British teaching colleagues would wait until their summer break to get their dental work done while back on home soil. However, I see your point. Yet your last statement is key---it depends on where the OP's job will be located. If it's out in the middle of no man's land, then yes, get the dental work done prior to arriving to KSA because it may be difficult finding a good dentist in his Saudi location. It also depends on the extent of dental work the OP expects or needs to have done.

A root canal, and a few fillings. I'll be in Riyadh.

So it sounds like, as long as I make sure to get a referral to a reputable practitioner, it may be worth waiting. The root canal and crown alone, in the US, is likely to be at least $1700.

Lots of dentists in KSA. Some good and some not so good. They cater for all pockets.

The only problem I've had with the dentists here is the waiting around because they never seem to run to a proper schedule with the appointments.

I would be happy to recommend my dentist in Riyadh to anyone. A gay guy from Yemen believe it or not. He'll give you a filling!

If you get Class A coverage, dental is definitely included, except for cosmetic procedures, crowns, and cleaning.

Class A doesn't seem to go very far, or it didn't in my case. I used it up at the hospital where my cover is and then went to a clinic where I found my dentist.

Arjee Clinic opposite Riyadh Care hospital on Unayzah Road. It doesn't look that great but the dentists do a great job.

Dental cover in class A is limited to 2.5k Riyals per year.

Quite sufficient I would say for several fillings and similar stuff.
