I will be leaving both the uni where I now work as well as a 2nd job I have at a private school in the city. The uni wants me to write a letter of recommendation but I have no idea what to put into it. Both my co-worker and I have to do this and neither of us has gotten on well with what passes for admin. Any suggestions?
One of the department heads I work with is also willing to write a letter of recommendation. Should this be different than the one I do for the FAO?
My 2nd job loves me and will say anything I ask. However, is this a good idea to submit such a letter when applying for other uni jobs?
Thanks.

You've been asked to write your own letter of recommendation (about you) for them to sign (as it's easier for them than doing it themselves)?
or
You've been asked to write a letter of recommendation about the Uni?
If it's the first one then write how you're the best thing since sliced bread; students need only look at you and they spontaniously spout English like they're 1980's coked-up Californian real estate agents.
If it's the second and you're worried about getting a good letter of recommendation in return then shelve the negatives and spin the positives a little. If not, tell it like it is (to you).
I imagine you were legally hired to work for the uni and not the private school so, a uni letter of recommendation would be better for the next uni, and you don't want to give the next uni the idea that you'll work elsewhere while you're legally hired by them.
Good luck with the next job. |

This is probably good advice. |

Thanks for the suggestions. The letter from my uni would be about me. I will use the letter from my 2nd job when I look for side work in the future.
