I told my boss I am gone in June and we are both happy to be done with each other. However, when I brought up the subject of a release letter, her listening comprehension suddenly took a nose dive. She claimed to have no idea what I was talking about. I will prepare these forms in both English and Chinese but I want to make sure I understand the process.
1. A couple of recruiters sent me blank letters of recommendation and they are almost identical. There is not much room for the actual recommendation so I will make the text short and to the point. The rest of the form is personal info and a place to mark what type of teacher I was. I think "very good" is accurate.
Is there any point in writing a separate and longer letter and attaching it to the form?
2. I also got sample release letters and they are really basic. A little bit of info about the teacher, length of time the person had worked for the school, and wording that says the contract has been completed and the teacher is free to work for someone else. Is this all that is needed?
My understanding is that I need the red stamp on both of them, correct?
Anything else I should do?
Thanks.

I'm also done in June and I will get:
1. A personal reference letter (written by myself) from the Prof of my department, signed and maybe stamped by him.
2. The official release form (all in Chinese) given to me by the HR department, to be signed, filled in and stamped by the department secretary, and then HR.
That's me, then I'm on the fast boat out of here. Well, maybe a move to Hainan. Otherwise, SEA here I come (for the summer at least). |

I got basically the same response for the release letter. Recommendation was no problem, he gave me 2 stamped hard copies and emailed me one the same day. Release, what's that? |

Hi,
You may want to add something about your excellent teaching ability and the fact that you got along with students, other teachers and administrators.
It is always better if you can write the letter yourself and have them sign it and put their chop in it. This way, you have a lot more control on the content.
Good luck. |

Yes, I left a school about a year ago with not a very good relationship. This was due to many things, but mostly they were not very conducive to the treatment of foreign teachers and lost many teachers every year because of it. I wrote the short, but positive letter and they signed and stamped it.
It should not be a problem. |

Anyone have a link for the "official" Chinese release letter form? I used to have it saved, but the USB it was on failed with no back up. My Foreign Affairs Officer competency and motivation wise is a step above (below?) a potato, so I'd like to just do as much as I can myself and leave her free to lick the windows. |

My colleague showed me one of his old ones this weekend, and it looked just like this. I've asked my new school for a blank copy, so if she ever responds I'll let you know. Otherwise I'll print this one out and see what happens. I asked her if she could give me a general time frame to completion and she responded 'hopefully by August.' My current docs expire 7/15...sigh.

PM me with your email and I'll send you the template release letter (word doc). |

Do you need the recommendation / release letters if you change schools but plan to start the process over again by going home and applying for a new Z visa? |

I'm in this situation, I left China in June 2013 and knew I would be returning in a year's time. I was told by my FAO I did not need a release letter as I'd be returning on a new visa. I have no reason not to trust this guy, he's as honest as the day is long. |

The new school that I am going to start with asked for the original stamped release & reference letter copies. Is this normal protocol or should I just give them photocopies?
I'm also curious if the flight expenses to Hong Kong are covered by the company or am I to pay for it and get reimbursed?
Cheers,
