Is there any chance for a non-native speaker in any part of the world after doing the TESOL certification? Or is it all a big scam?

It very much depends on which TESOL certificate you have. Certificates are generally seen as the entry qualification, something to build upon. The better qualifications you have the easier it is.

There are plenty non-native speakers teaching around the world, in fact, the majority of English speakers are non-native speakers.

I did TESOL from the American TESOL Institute Bangkok. It's been 2 months that i have been sending resumes non-stop. Nothing seems to work out. I am fed up and feel regretful.

I'm not sure how you're applying "fake" and "a scam" in this context. That would describe a business that took your money with the intent to defraud you by not delivering on agreed upon services. It seems your issue is with the job placement service this particular company offers, which, unfortunately, is used as a marketing ploy to attract wannabe teachers to their TEFL course. These course providers never stress that your qualifications would still need to meet those of prospective employers.

Although you've been sending out resume ad nauseam, the reality is you don't hold the right passport and you're not a native English speaker, which means employers aren't likely to put you at the top of their list of candidates. To increase your employability, you would need a CELTA and at least a BA, preferably in English, English literature, education, etc. You'll first have to research which countries you can legally work in, and then focus your job hunt in those locations but only after you've also scoured job ads to see if your qualifications fit any of the advertised positions. Anyway, this probably isn't what you wanted to hear, but rest assured there are many non-native speakers successfully teaching throughout the world.

I've no doubt either that this company markets their courses to imply a teaching job afterwards comes automatically. How unscrupulous and sickening. I wonder too what sort of person ends up as a trainer there. If vijaym is applying for jobs in Thailand, seeing as the course was done there, I don’t hold out much hope unfortunately. Malaysia might be more welcoming, but as nomad soul says, some more qualifications are required

IF you are in Thailand and you have a valid TESOL cert then I suspect that the applications you were sending out were probably incomplete.

I know from first hand experience that many NNS applicants don't have the required documentation for employment; they can't get a proper visa.
I hired 14 new staff this year (March - May 2014) and I have just about 200 faculty on staff including about 50 of whom are NNS.

I advertised on a popular website for teachers in Thailand.
I had more than 15 applications from Indian applicants.
The ad they responded to listed the required documentation AND said that incomplete applications would be rejected without response.
NONE of the Indian applicants had the required documentation for a visa application and for that reason their applications were rejected.
I suspect that your application may have been among them.

IF you have:

1) a legitimate bachelor's degree (or better),
2) your transcript of records from your university,
3) a valid TOEIC (IELTS and TOEFL are also acceptable) certificate with a score over 600 (the minimum set by immigration for NNS to obtain a visa),

- a cover letter written in decent (not necessarily perfect) English
(use a spelling and grammar checker before you send it) and
- your resume (also make sure you check for errors)

then you should have had some response.

If:
- you are missing any one of the 3 required documents (immigration/visa requirements)
- you had spelling/grammar errors in your cover letter
- your resume was incomplete / had spelling-grammar errors

- you are no longer in Thailand (applications from abroad are largely ignored for entry level jobs)

then you will know why you have received no response to your applications.

.

I think calling it a bit scam is a little harsh. Gone are the days when a basic, online TEFL certificate would guarantee a job. Most TEFLers these days have much more e.g degree + MA + CELTA + PGCE and experience, although quite a few do not at the same time!.

What I would suggest is that you look at the requirements of each country regarding visas and job ads, for example, would an Indian national get a work visa for Taiwan or Korea ... I don't think so or at least I've never in fifteen years of teaching, seen a job posting for Indians in such places.

Sorry, not to be giving you better news, but research and realism are the key to landing good in the murky world of TESOL. Have you considered starting out teaching in India to gain experience? What are their requirements?
