|

I'm coming in Sept. with my girlfriend. She has a BA and I have an MA in TESOL. We both have lots of experience teaching ESL in the States. I've heard that Taiwanese employers are racist against non-whites (I'm white and my gal's skin is dark chocolate). I'm confident I can get a job but am wondering two things:
1. will she have a problem getting a job?
2. if a company/school offers accomodation, does she have to work at the same school for us to share the apartment?
Any experience or help regarding this would relieve some of my worries.
Thanx! |

Have her apply at one of the major chains. They are less likely to be openly racist. Also, have her work down south. You will find it easier to get a university job, and down south standards are lower, there are fewer foreigners, and it will be easier to find a job.

Will it still be possible to get a university position if we arrive in September? Also, I've heard there are fewer positions in the south as opposed to the north (Taipei); wouldn't that mean more competition? Well try our luck anyway; she feels better securing a contract before we go whereas I'd rather just show up and find something. |
